Post-Conference Digest: Program Summaries and Downloads
With the very fitting backdrop of New Orleans – undiminished as it marked the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and faced the new realities of the Gulf oil spill – 175 NCGS members gathered in late June for “A Call to Service”, the Coalition’s Annual Conference exploring the many ways that service, broadly defined, can be part of the programs and the lives of our girls’ school communities. From the pre-conference day of service at the St. Bernard Project (http://www.stbernardproject.org/) to the inspired closing remarks of new philanthropy pioneers, father-daughter team of Kevin and Hannah Salwen speaking about “The Power of Half”, the spirit of service came alive for participants. Interactive panels on such topics as social entrepreneurship, public service, public/private partnerships, and philanthropy – some showcasing NCGS schools, others featuring professionals in the particular field – offered the chance for learning, discussion, and idea generation. Local luminaries and national brand gurus punctuated the program as keynotes, reinforcing the collective call to service that has so profoundly marked the community of New Orleans and today’s generation of young people. And Eileen Powers and her incomparable team at Louise McGehee School reminded us all why the south has such a well deserved reputation for hospitality, meeting all our needs in the most gracious and professional manner possible.
Links and downloads of materials and presentations from the conference, where made available, can be found below.
